"Smoke Break" by Zakhar Shevchuk stands as a profound statement in the realm of contemporary art, bridging the gap between familiarity and innovation in portraiture. This piece, now a prized possession in a private collection, displays Shevchuk's deft experimentation with form that echoes the audacious spirit of early 20th-century art movements. His interpretation of the portrait is a confluence of subdued cubist elements and the vigorous energy of futurism.

The artwork captures an instance of life's routine—smoke curling from a cigarette—imbuing the static with dynamism. Shevchuk's rich, complex brushwork complements the transient quality of smoke, creating a portrait that is as much about the moment as it is about the enduring nature of its subject. While the original "Smoke Break" is no longer available, Shevchuk continues to welcome commissions, offering collectors the opportunity to own a piece of his evolving artistic journey.

Zakhar Shevchuk is a young professional painter and draftsman, he holds a master in arts degree from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (Kyiv, Ukraine) and now himself teaches at the academy. His artworks are held in public and private collections worldwide, furthermore, he often participates in various public projects, such as painting murals and other monumental installations.

With years Zakhar's artistic style moved away from academic realism (which always tended closer to expressionism) and towards the style that in somewhere on the edge between figurative art and abstraction. In many of his works, even those that may seem as fully abstract ones, you will find some elements that were intentionally added, aiming to trick your brain into believing that you have finally found something recognisable, something that matches the reality, but then you suddenly loose it, starting the search over and over again.
