Wir waren wild, wir waren jung. Die Welt stand da mit offenem Schoß und weitem Mund und staunte. Alles war möglich, Kierkegaards Stirnfalten waren ahnbar vielleicht, aber noch nicht konkret.
Wir probierten uns aus in allem. Waren derart anders, dass wir erst in der Distanz die neuen Kategorien erkannten, die wir erfanden. Stolz, laut oder leise – hungrig auf Individualität. Bewusst oder verborgen grenzten wir uns ab, um in Massenkonformität Geborgenheit zu finden und wieder zu verwerfen. Sturm und Drang waren unsere Triebfedern, das Leben zu kosten mit all dem, was es ausmacht. Wir waren bunt und schwarz oder weiß, synthesizergetränkt tanzten wir in nie gewesenen Rhythmen auf Rollerblades oder in gruftigen Gewändern, mit neonfarbenen Schulterpolstern und Karottenjeans, in zerschlissener Punksehnsucht mit Fuck-Off-Plaketten oder rüschiger, blusiger Erregung einer neuen Romantik. Was außerhalb war, blendeten wir aus, soweit es ging, sublimierten es großflächig auf Häuserwände.
Wir bauten ideale Welten und ließen Neubauten einstürzen, surften auf Wellen und überall war diese Musik, nicht mehr nur an festen Orten, begleitete sie uns, wo wir liefen und unserer Zukunft entgegenrannten. Es war schön und gruselig. Es war spannend und intensiv. Und beschert mir noch heute, Jahrzehnte später, eine wohlige, wenn auch nostalgisch gestimmte Gänsehaut.

For Rea Schenk, art is a way of dealing with the unspeakable . An opportunity to question common categories and appropriately re-establish them. As an engineer, she is a career changer in the art scene. Certainly not by chance and for various reasons, she has found digital art to be the right thing for her at the moment, but is increasingly experimenting in combination with traditional techniques. For them, technology is not a narcissistic violation of their boundaries, but rather an extension and help to express what other languages do not allow. Original photographs change, are sometimes discarded, rearranged, processed using very different techniques and, increasingly, completely painted over. Rea chooses the path that always wants something more, looks for something in between. Who seeks to capture the atmospheric, what cannot be said.
WHO?
Woman, artist and technician, born in Berlin in 1969. Graphic design was my passion early on, but I didn't have the courage for a long time. In addition to graphic work for small museums, clubs, musicians and small agencies, the path initially went into technology. As an engineer, I returned to CAD and my passion through technical drawing and photography.
