Jerome Poumes, a contemporary French artist, has dedicated the past two decades to the pursuit of pictorial expression in diverse forms and techniques, with a particular emphasis on acrylic on canvas using a knife as his chosen instrument. Academically trained, he has navigated various artistic directions, traversing the realms from figurative to abstract, and ultimately arriving at a distinctive form of expressionism.

Poumes' artistic universe is characterized by dynamic compositions, a lively style, and notably contrasting tonalities that are rich in nuance. Drawing inspiration from a myriad of sources, including history, human emotions, mythology, the urban environment, and the beauty of nature, his work is deeply rooted in personal experience and emotions.

Beyond being an artist, Jerome Poumes considers himself an "artist-researcher," a perpetual explorer guided by curiosity. Recently, this curiosity led him to delve into sculpture, specifically through the creation of arc-welded steel pieces. This transition from 2D to 3D reflects a lifelong fascination with the impact of light on objects, evoking a desire to create volume.

The meticulous process of choosing, shaping, hammering, and patinating steel forms in Poumes' sculptures mirrors the powerful aesthetic seen in his canvas work. The deliberate choice of steel is not arbitrary; it symbolizes the forge's fire, the resonance of hammer on anvil, the sparks of the grinder, and the arc-welding process, all contributing to a visceral sense of power that resonates with the audience.

In a recent evolution, Poumes has started combining certain types of wood, such as boxwood, with his steel creations. This choice is driven by a deep-seated love for working with this challenging yet rich and timeless material, further enhancing his creative inspiration.

Notably, all the materials utilized by Jerome Poumes are sourced from recycled materials, underscoring his commitment to an eco-responsible approach. His work has been exhibited regularly in France and abroad, including prestigious venues like the Salon International de Sarria in Spain and Tokyo, showcasing the global reach and appreciation for his artistry.
