This work is dedicated to the old Ukrainian holiday Mermaid Week (or Green Holidays), which in the Ukrainian calendar and ritual traditions lasts three days before the feast of the Holy Trinity and three days after this holiday. According to the artistic idea, three mermaids are depicted here waves flowing in the space of the composition around the Moon - the Sun Mermaids. In their hands they hold a rake, which conduct streaks of rain, because during Mermaid Week there are short-term or long-term (in different regions of Ukraine) heavy rains. In particular, in Ukrainian Egg decorating, rakes as the motif is a symbol of rain, water descending from heaven to earth and connects them (or a girl with a boy). On either side of each mermaid curls a stem of hops, which is the sacred plant of the spring and summer calendar holidays and embodies the desire for moisture. The entire composition is created with rhythmic repetitions of the same elements three times, and the general configuration of the group of mermaid figures is similar to the outline of the symbolic sign of the pagan Trihorn on Ukrainian Easter eggs. In this context, the number three is not accidental, because the Trihorn is a sign of the holy fire and the Holy Trinity.
