Mum and Dad, Sculptural diptych of two horses, Wall sculpture by Cosé Manzano.

The sculpture has been directly hammered as a one of a kind installation / wall sculpture.
Cosé Manzano’s aim was to express the animals by only suggesting their outer shell and give the metal an almost fragile appearance.

Technique and material: shaped and hand-hammered out of flat copper.

The pose of the horses reminded him of a couple, a Mum and Dad, close and affectionate.
Mum and Dad are hung to the wall with little rings on hooks. Four hooks will be included.

Manzano is particularly intrigued by the question of how much is needed to visualize the essence of an animal. He used the principle of Pars - Pro - Toto, Latin for ‘a part to express the whole’. In this particular work he only took part of their heads and only suggested their outer shell, as if a wet cloth was put over them. This approach gives the sturdy copper pieces an almost fragile appearance.

The start was a rectangle of copper sheet for each head. Then Cosé shaped the two horse heads by pleading and hammering (with a range of hammers) and a hot flame when required. Cosé chose copper for its beautiful color and patina and its great malleable qualities.
