In 2019, I was supposed to fly to Shanghai for the opening of an exhibition of my paintings at the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art. I was really looking forward to the exhibition, but the idea of spending more than two days on a plane and in uncomfortable seats at a transit airport took away that joy. I am a very active person and that's why I sometimes had doubts whether I should stay at home.
However, the doubts were not fulfilled in the end. Especially because of the breathtaking visual experience, when the early morning rays of the sun through the glass wall literally flooded the waiting room of the transit airport. Slumbering passengers waiting for the next train were waking up and the waiting room was beginning to come alive. Even the planes on the runway were drenched in sunshine.
The new day started with a wonderful sun show. I knew I had to immortalize him in photographs, because at that moment ideas for new paintings were born in me. This is one of them.
My doubts disappeared and I was looking forward to another beautiful day....
The painting is dedicated to all those who fly and travel with joy.

Zsombor Barakonyi is a contemporary Hungarian painter. His unique visual language offers viewers new levels of perceiving reality, in which, by overwriting conventional approaches, he builds a dialectic relationship between content and objectuality.

Barakonyi‘s works are postmodern panel paintings depicting visions of metropolitan flâneur. The depicted scene is always a snapshot, capturing a moment in the urban hubbub and commotion, which reveals itself through a model of perception whose anchoring points have been shifted into a new balance.

Zsombor Barakonyi was born in 1972, in Budapest, Hungary. After graduating from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and also earning a Doctor of Liberal Arts degree there, Barakonyi went on to win numerous awards and prizes.
