Stephane Dillies is a contemporary French artist whose work delves into the realm of reality, seeking to unveil aspects of our surroundings that often go unnoticed due to either concealment or familiarity. Born in April 1975, Dillies graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Belgium, and has since made Brussels his home and artistic base.

His artistic journey is characterized by a deep exploration of discarded materials found in urban environments, which serve as his primary medium. Dillies meticulously selects and combines these materials—ranging from shiny plastics and acetates to magazine covers and various packaging—to create thought-provoking compositions that challenge societal norms and consumerist culture.

Dillies's current body of work consists of paintings inspired by photographs of trash cans from cities around the world. Each painting is titled with GPS coordinates representing the location where the materials were collected, with subtitles indicating the originating cities. These modern landscapes, although visually striking at first glance, serve as poignant reminders of the excesses of contemporary society and the transient nature of human existence.

Through his art, Dillies employs a similar approach to hyperrealist painters, but with a distinct twist in meaning and purpose. His work not only questions the role of art in today's world but also confronts viewers with the stark reality of consumerism and mortality. His paintings, akin to modern vanities, prompt contemplation on the impermanence of life and the inevitability of decay.

Dillies's exhibitions have spanned across France and Belgium, including notable galleries such as JPB Art Gallery in St Tropez and Xavier Ronse Gallery in Mouscron. His works have also found a place in public collections, including the Mercedes-Benz Contemporary Art collection in Lille, France, and the Fine Arts Museum in Le Touquet, France.
