Antonio Carena (Rivoli 1925 - 1 July 2010). In 1950, after obtaining a diploma from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts at the painting school of Enrico Paulucci and Mauro Davico, he exhibited at the XXV Venice Biennale. In 1951 he won the "Dino Uberti" as best graduate and the "Cattedra di Pittura" at the II National Exhibition of the Academies of Fine Arts, Naples. he was a figure teacher at the Cottini Art School in Turin, and subsequently taught painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cuneo. His first "skies" they were presented by Michel Tapié; later his work was been commented on by the major critics, from Galvano to Fossati, Sanguineti, Rosci, Mantovani, Mistrangelo and many others. The airbrushed skies, as well as the sheets, plastics, marquisettes, canvases, perspex and wood presented with the slogan "leather, always leather, very strongly leather' have been exhibited in collective exhibitions, together with the works of major international artists: Burri, Capogrossi, Fontana, De Kooning, Pollock, Tapies, Bacon, Magritte, Man Ray, Switters, Picasso, Max Ernst, Léger, Miro' and many others. For the "Heaven-how-much-I-love-you" series has "vitalized" ceilings and walls in Rome, Geneva, Rivoli, Turin and Paris. I de-opacified a neutral space by virtue of the clouding which typifies my 'modus operandi', building a functional sky, not prosthetic of naturalness but pertaining to a romantic 'in vitro' operation. If the SKY-FLOWER operation underlies an interpretative filter, for the innocent user of linguistic intrigues it will be enough satisfaction for the eye, the evident, epidermal editorial health.
