Step into the realm of surreal art with "Champion," a stunning wooden sculpture meticulously carved from bay tree wood. This remarkable piece of art originated in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in 2009, embracing the essence of surrealism and the beauty of nature.
The sculpture's focal point is the laurel wreath, an emblem synonymous with victory, elegantly encircling the wooden masterpiece. Drawing inspiration from the timeless fable of the tortoise and the hare, "Champion" ingeniously captures the narrative of triumph and determination, etching it into the core of its design.
The artist's skillful craftsmanship is evident in the intricate details that mirror the texture of the tortoise's shell, creatively brought to life by the contrast between the bay tree's bark and wood. Using only a knife, the artisan skillfully shaped every contour, infusing the sculpture with the spirit of the race and the tortoise's unwavering spirit.
What sets "Champion" apart is its natural, unadorned state. Unlike conventional finishes, the sculpture remains uncovered, allowing the rich aroma of bay spices to emanate from the wood. With a gentle application of heat, this captivating fragrance can be released, engaging not only your visual senses but also your olfactory experience.
"Champion" is more than a sculpture; it's a sensory journey that celebrates victory, determination, and the allure of surrealism. Bring a touch of whimsical elegance and historical resonance to your living space with this extraordinary artwork. Owning "Champion" means possessing a tangible representation of triumph, artistry, and the fusion of nature's beauty with human ingenuity.

I've been immersed in the art of crafting wooden sculptures for as long as my memory reaches. However, when the storm of war descended upon Ukraine, sculpting became more than a passion; it became my refuge from the stress and relentless barrage of war-related news. It was during this tumultuous period that a revelation struck - I could leave behind the undesired trappings of conventional work and forge a livelihood out of doing what I truly love.
This realization brought about a fundamental shift in my perspective. While my creations had always been crafted with care for friends, family, and those dear to me, the idea of selling my works to a broader audience had never been a priority. Each piece, whether initially intended for a specific person as a talisman or created with a sense of patience, waited years or even decades to find its destined owner.
About half of my works have been brought into existence in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, serving as both a testament to resilience and a means of processing the challenging times. Amidst ongoing creation, there are still sculptures in progress, capturing the evolving essence of my artistic journey.
Fortuitously, my art found a platform on Artmajeur, prompting me to join the ranks of artists worldwide. Now, I embark on this global artistic venture, sharing my wooden sculptures with the world, each piece carrying not just my craft but the unique story of survival and creativity born from adversity.
