In Search Of the Butterfly

The works from this series are works that have been part of a museum exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Washington, DC, USA. These works have also been exhibited in many commercial galleries since 1996, but this is the first time they have ever been offered for sale to the public.

The works in blue were the the first of this series to be created. My paletted transitioned to deep browns, and metallic gold after seeing three exhibitions of work by James McNeil Whistler in the summer of 1995. I was particularly influenced bu a series of female nude etchings done buy Whistler during his years in London and Paris. After that I worked with models posing them in poses similiar to Whistler's models, and adapted my palette to his.

While these works were influenced by Whistler, thery are distinctly different from the Whister pieces. I used gelatin silver prints and alternative silver prints to render the female figure. Those were then over printed with, or in the case f the earlier worksset into, monotypes. Each piece is unique. No two are alike.

Several works from this series have been sold through .
